Colonel Genz Bresslau (ガンツ・ブレスロー Gantsu Buresurō ) is a supporting character in the video game Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel. A military policeman who proclaims himself to be "The Armor-Piercing Alchemist" and the strongest in the military. He has no interest in rank or honor; his only pursuit is his own physical strength. He is quick to anger, and shows no mercy for subordinates who fail in their duty.
Bresslau appears to be trying to trick various alchemists, whether licensed State Alchemists or just alchemists who happened to be in the military, by framing them for various crimes, then promising to uncover proof of their innocence but encouraging them to head to New Hiessgart. Whether he was working for Brigadier Nemda, Professor Eiselstein, or Eiselstein's assistant Greta is unclear.
Although Bresslau pops up occasionally in the game, his major function seems to be as a minor boss for Edward to fight. Each time Bresslau reappears, he has acquired more automail (first pitting his left automail arm against Edward's right, then returning with both arms now automail, and so on). While this ignores the standard recovery time required for automail surgery and rehabilitation, he appears able to control and use his automail with some dexterity.
Despite Bresslau's trigger-temper, he takes advantage of Edward's temper at least once by calling Edward shorty after their first fight (which Edward wins easily) to both escape and cause a disaster when Edward's over-reaction destroys a tunnel and derails the train he was on.
- Unlike the most officers in the State Military, his last name is not derived from a military vehicle, vessel or weapon of any sort. The name "Bresslau" derives from the German name of the Polish city Wroclaw.
- Bresslau's picture can be seen outside an automail shop in Rush Valley in Chapter 17: The Boomtown of the Broken Down.
- Genz Bresslau can also be seen in the last cutscene in Fullmetal Alchemist 2 Curse of the Crimson Elixir, standing outside the train which Edward is boarding to head to Central. This ties in neatly with his appearance in the game Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel, as he encounters Edward on the top of the same train after his flunkies have attempted to hijack the train.
- he's probably named after the German SMS Breslau, a Magdeburg-class cruiser built before the 1e world war. the ship served under the Ottoman Empire during WW I and renamed Midilli. It was sunk during the Battle of Imbros
