ArmstrongFamily

The heirs to the house of Armstrong, listed from youngest to oldest from left to right: Catherine Elle Armstrong, Alex Louis Armstrong, Strongine, Amue and Olivier Mira Armstrong.

The Armstrong Family is an illustrious and noble Amestrian family whose members have served in the Amestrian Military for generations, having played vital roles in financial, military and political circles within Amestrian society for 180 years. They are all extremely honorable and hold their family status with great pride often boasting about their noble history which is clearly shown with their eccentric actions. They are all gifted with impeccable strength and the marvelous (yet eerie) glow of their pride can always be seen by those around them, usually seen with a sparkle around their faces. In addition, the Armstrong family boasts a lasting military history, having many members serve as high-ranking officials such as generals across the generations. The family seal is made to resemble the curled forelock shared by all members as well as a similarly curled mustache.

Notable Members[]

Etymology[]

  • The surname Armstrong means "Son of a strong man, strong arm" in English.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being the second youngest child in the family, Alex Louis Armstrong was originally chosen by Philip Gargantos Armstrong to become the next head of the family, likely due to the fact he is the eldest and only son, implying the Armstrong Family has an Agnatic-Cognatic Succession where males take priority over females as heirs unless no males are present. However, he lost this privilege to his sister Olivier Mira Armstrong during a duel in the Armstrong mansion.
    • It is possible that Phillip chose Alex under the belief his kind heart and desire to protect would be admirable qualities in his successor.
    • Given the title of successor was decided by a fight between Olivier and Alex, it is possible this is a secondary method should the current head be indesicive on which child to succeed him.
  • Amue and Strongine are omitted from both anime series, barring a single cameo in Episode 38: Conflict at Baschool, during one of Yoki's flashbacks—they are exclusive to the manga; and even then, they mostly just fill space. Nothing of their personalities has ever been revealed.
  • Like nearly all military personnel in the Fullmetal Alchemist series, the Armstrong family is named after a military vehicle, vessel or weapon.
    • In this case, a British bomber from early WWII called the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley (A.W.38 Whitley).
  • Despite being the eldest of the Armstrong children, Olivier is the second shortest compared to her two immediate younger sisters and her brother, who tower over her by more than a head and are mountains of muscle. Only their youngest sister Catherine Elle Armstrong is smaller than her.
  • Aside from the looks, the sparkles hovering in the air around them has been passed down the Armstrong line for generations.
